World Overview

shutterstock back upWorld Health Organizations statistics show that 1.1 BILLION people around the world lack improved drinking water. 2.4 BILLION people do not have access to improved sanitation.

2 MILLION people die every year due to the lack of clean, safe drinking water or effective sanitation. Bacterial diarrhoeal diseases are the major cause.

The majority of these deaths are of children under the age of 5.

The core issues are lack of investment, lack of access to clean, safe drinking water, sanitation supplies, along with poor hygiene habits.

These issues not only affect small rural communities, but also effect towns and even cities including schools, health centers and hospitals.

Increased manufacturing, mining and agriculture is also impacting the health of people, with contaminates such as arsenic, dyes and chemicals being washed into the water supply and causing major health problems. Both adults and children are falling sick, suffering from terrible skin conditions and in cases dying.

Arsenic poisoning is becoming far more widespread. Inorganic arsenic is entering the water supply and causing many problems. Once a person is consuming arsenic from drinking contaminated water, a series of conditions arise – Vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, skin lesions, diabetes, renal system failure, enlarged liver, blood diseases and it has also been shown to cause cancer of the skin, bladder, lunges, liver, kidneys and prostrate.

There are great organizations out there doing a fantastic job in trying to tackle these problems, but as you can see, there’s a lot more that needs to be done and it’s a huge issue to face.

Access Water CIC was set up to help. Along with our fellow organizations, our desire to combat the lack of access to clean, safe, drinking water and along with your support, we can try to help as many people as possible to have the most important thing in life, which is health.
